METX Would Accelerate As The New Presidency Tends to Appeal to Overseas Students

直击美股

The U.S. has long been the top destination for international students globally. Nevertheless, international student enrollments in United States universities declined by 16% in autumn 2020 and drops in new student enrollments were more than twice as steep, at 43%, according to data from a snapshot survey designed to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on US higher education.

Moreover, COVID-19 is not the only factor influencing US enrollment trends. A less welcoming climate for international students arising during the Trump administration, including tighter visa restrictions and xenophobic rhetoric, along with increased competition from other countries, appears to have also cut into the US share.

However, international student enrollments will probably increase soon since these two factors may change this year. On the one hand, the government is speeding up COVID-19 vaccine distribution to get more Americans vaccinated quickly and then control the pandemic; on the other, the new administration would probably alleviate the strained diplomatic relations between the U.S. and China.

Overall, China has the largest share of students at U.S. colleges of any country, comprising roughly 40% of the total in 2019-2020. It will be a good time again for Chinese students to apply to US universities this year, and those English language training (ELT) companies in China may get benefit from it.

As a leading ELT service provider in China, delivering English language and future skills training for Chinese students and professionals, Meten EdtechX Education Group (Nasdaq: METX) is likely to grow fast in such a situation.

Unlike most traditional educational institutions that are forced to develop online teaching in 2020, Meten has been putting weight on online education years ago. Taking the advantage of the online platform Likeshuo, an App launching in 2016, Meten recently provided Japanese and Spanish teaching services, except for English courses, and would explore more languages in the near future.

Due to the epidemic,  Meten EdtechX has accelerated the development of its online business. The company quickly integrated online and offline resources, such as the adult ELT, junior ELT, and overseas training services. Meten’s student is able to finish everything, including language study, English test, documents submission, and evaluation, all on its online platforms, during the whole period of applying to an overseas university. A diversifying business combined with its technology strength, as well as the more promising environment in 2021, will make it possible to witness Meten EdtechX’s expansion this year.
